Renal Tubular Acidosis Type 2 and 3: Proximal Renal Tubular Acidosis (pRTA) and Combined Proximal and Distal RTA in Children
ثبت نشده
چکیده
Renal tubular acidosis (RTA) type 2, also called proximal renal tubular acidosis, is characterized by hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis due to impaired reabsorption of bicarbonate (HCO3) in proximal tubules. It can be due to isolated defect or part of generalized defect (Fanconi syndrome). Rickets/Osteomalacia is more common and treatment is usually difficult. RTA type 3 is designated when combined features of both type 1 and type 2 RTA are present. In this article, etiology, pathophysiology, symptoms, diagnosis, differential diagnosis, treatment and prognosis of renal tubular acidosis type 2 are described.

Distal Renal Tubular Acidosis with Grade 4 Vesicoureteral Reflux in a Child with Single Kidney
Introduction Renal tubular acidosis (RTA) is a non-uremic defects of urinary acidification. It is characterized by a normal anion gap hyperchloremic metabolic acidosis; plasma potassium may be normal, low or high-depending on the type of RTA. These syndromes differ from uremic acidosis which is associated with a high anion gap, decreased glomerular filtration with enhanced proton secretion b...

Proximal renal tubular acidosis (pRTA) results from an impairment of bicarbonate (HCO(3)(-)) reabsorption in the renal proximal tubules and is characterized by a decreased renal HCO(3)(-) threshold. Proximal RTA most commonly occurs in association with multiple defects of proximal tubular transport (renal Fanconi syndrome). Although much more rare, pRTA may occur without other functional defect...
متن کاملPROLONGED PARALYSIS AS AN UNUSUAL PRESENTATION OF RENAL TUBULAR ACIDOSIS
A case of renal tubular acidosis (RTA) who had gradual onset of paralysis of lower extremities and persisted for a long time is presented. His primary workups were mistaken for muscular dystrophy. Eventually, an abdominal ultrasonography revealed small stones in both of the kidneys and his workup for the stones were in favor of distal renal tubular acidosis and advanced rickets with hypokal...

Renal Tubular Acidosis (RTA) is a clinical syndrome characterised by metabolic acidosis secondary to a disorder in renal acidification. The acidification may be manifested by a defect in the renal tubular reabsorption of bicarbonate and/or urinary excretion of hydrogen ion1 -3. In terms of clinical and physiopathological aspects this disease can be classified into three groups: distal RTA or ty...
متن کاملProximal renal tubular acidosis mediated by mutations in NBCe1-A: unraveling the transporter's structure-functional properties
NBCe1 belongs to the SLC4 family of base transporting membrane proteins that plays a significant role in renal, extrarenal, and systemic acid-base homeostasis. Recent progress has been made in characterizing the structure-function properties of NBCe1 (encoded by the SLC4A4 gene), and those factors that regulate its function. In the kidney, the NBCe1-A variant that is expressed on the basolatera...
